London based photographer Carmel King exhibits a series of Polaroids, examining Whitstable’s dual identity as a popular seaside resort and working fishing port. Her images capture the emblematic details of the British coast.
The unpredictable qualities of old Polaroid film coupled with the ever changing light, produces bleached out tones as well as saturated reds and yellows evoking retro scenes of family photo albums. Void of Whitstable’s residents and tourists the images focus on the minutiae of this historic town.
